ABCs of Thankfulness

Did you miss me? I hope you did!

Because of some things happening in my life I’ve been a little MIA lately. The desire to “show and tell” (which is what I feel like this blog is most days) just hasn’t been there so I’ve been avoiding this like the plague. But yesterday I came across a blog post by Marquis over at Simply Clarke and it gave me a little inspiration back.

Over the past few weeks I’ve been constantly reminding myself that even when I’m facing struggles or trials I am still a child of God. A child of God who is so incredibly blessed that I can’t even fathom all that He has done for me and given me. I’m imperfect and undeserving but He is always here for me and He is always in control. That being said, I’m going to link up with Mrs. Clarke today and share my ABCs of Thankfulness.

Apple. The company (not the fruit) because I sure do love my iphone and ipad.

Books. Call me a nerd if you’d like, but I love reading.

Chocolate. It doesn’t always fit in to my Weight Watchers plan but it sure can make a girl feel better.

Diet Coke and Dr. Pepper

Emily, my sister. She’s the best sister that any one could ask for and she is always there for me.

Fossil, Inc. Without it I wouldn’t have my fantastic job!

Goldendoodles. If you don’t know what that is, google it!

Holidays. There isn’t anything like spending the Holidays with the people you love, especially when your family is a big and incredible as mine!

Instagram. you gotta have something to do when you’re bored and Facebook isn’t cutting it.

Jason Mraz. Because his music makes me happy on a daily basis. Keep it up, sir!

Kitchens. Even though I’m the worst cook ever I love kitchens and I’m hopeful that one day I’ll be able to cook!

Lace. Girly, dainty, fancy, and beautiful lace!

Movies. And popcorn. With butter!

Nature. This is one of my favorite ways to see God’s beauty.

Oxygen. No description necessary.

Parents. Because mine are the best, and the parents they have (my grandparents, duh) have been the biggest blessings in my life. I couldn’t have asked for a better family.

Questions. That’s a weird one I know but I’m so thankful to be able to ask questions when I need to… about life, love, work, and whatever else I can think of.

Reality TV. One of my guilty pleasures… Super pumped that the Bachelor is back.

Strength. All that God has given me to face the ups and downs of this crazy life.

Time. Whether I’m spending it at work, with family or friends, or if I’m by myself, I’m so thankful for the time that I have been blessed with.

Umbrellas. All though I would be more than OK with Dallas bringing the summer and sunshine back.

Voice. We’ve all got one to use

Windows. Sitting in an office all day is a lot easier when all of the outer walls are windows so you can still enjoy the sunshine… kinda.

X-rays. Because they were able to show the doctors what was going on with my daddy’s ankles after his motorcycle accident this year.

Yellow. Because you really can’t go grow with such a happy color.

Zoo. How else would I get to see my favorite animal? (It’s a giraffe, for those of you that might not know)

I think I’ll leave it at that for today. The outfit posts with be back tomorrow! Feel free to share your ABCs of thankfulness!

Guest Post Thursday

Well hello ladies and gents… today is going to be short and sweet (on this page at least). Hop on over to Style Diary by Katie  to check out my first ever guest post. While Miss Katie is making her way through Europe we’ve been sharing spring styles we are most excited about. So… enjoy a little teaser and be sure to check out the full post here.

But I can’t let you leave without another fun fact!

For my 24th birthday I went on my first (and quite possibly last) back packing trip. It was an amazing experience- although I probably shouldn’t have gone just a few weeks after dealing with a beast of an illness… most commonly known as pneumonia.

breaking all the rules

Remember that kid growing up who always followed the rules? Seriously, never broke them and looked at you like you were completely crazy for doing something you weren’t supposed to? Well that kid would have hated me today.

Why is that?

Because I broke all kinds of rules today, and by rules I mean style rules. Actually… I only broke one of those “rules” but I broke it like 5 times, in the same outfit. Get crazy!

Ok… so here’s what I did. I wore black, with navy blue, cream, gold, and get this… brown. Yep, that’s right I wore every neutral that you aren’t supposed to wear together in the same outfit. And guess what, I actually liked it! When I put it on this morning I was really on the fence… seriously contemplated changing like for times. I did change twice, but then I went back to my original outfit. I felt a little loopy today, maybe because I was up so early, so I took a risk.

Unfortunately, you will have to use your imagination for this one… because until I find a full time photographer (I’m crossing my fingers for said photographer to also be a farmer with muscles, plaid shirts, and boots… this photographer should also be of the male variety… oo and he could be a singer… and a cook because goodness knows I’m not all that great at that… ok, sorry I’m getting off topic. but a girl can dream, right??) I have no pictures. Other than the pictures I took in Searcy this weekend, I promise they are coming soon! And they are fantastic, that sounds conceited but I just mean the quality, and the clothes… I’ve got to give myself credit for a little. ANYWAYS…. as I was saying… I’m in the market for a man photographer in Dallas. Know anyone? Interested? Hook a new girl up please!

No worries folks, this outfit will resurface… especially since you haven’t seen it. It will be brand new to you. So wait patiently, I know you are all itching to see it… right? Right.

call me spiderman

Alright, spiderman really isn’t appropriate. BUT I did go rock climbing today! See, I’m all about new things here!

Because I went climbing this post will be short and sweet. You’re welcome (did anyone watch that show on MTV, Awkward? If so, please say you’re welcome in the “Jenna imitating Sadie” voice).

This weekend I went to Arkansas. I saw the fam… well my mom and dad anyways. It was wonderful! I miss them so much! And I got my car back… I’ve never been so happy to spend $50 on gas… that has NOTHIN on the $85 I put in the truck.

I also saw one of my very best friends. His name is Jared and he is seriously the most wonderful man I know (besides my dad, duh). I say man because he’s old… like really old. Well not really but he is the oldest of all of my close Searcy friends.

Long story short. It was fantastic.

Sunday morning was full of awkward, “this kind of thing would only happen to me” moments. But those are for another time… Until then, I’ll leave you with a beautiful picture I took on the drive back.

Please forgive the bug splatters… too graphic? O well.

I’m done rambling. Look for a few outfit pictures soon.!

o btw… It was 80 today in Dallas. 80 in November, Texas I love you so much right now!

catching up

Let me start by apologizing for being MIA. I don’t really have a great reason… but I’ll go ahead and explain anyways.

Alright, so I started this sucker because I’ve been following some fantastic style blogs for a while now and well honestly I just really wanted to join in. And it’s kinda a life goal of mine to have someone repin a picture of my clothes on pinterest. Anyways… So here I am, with a blog that I started as a way to share my style and a month into it I haven’t showcased any clothes. Now I bet you’re wondering why. Well my friends I will tell you. It’s simple really, just two reasons.

1. I hate having my picture taken. I think it is extremely awkward (but thats not really saying much because I think most things are awkward). And on top of that… considering I just moved to a brand new place where I didn’t really know anyone, I was forced to resort to taking self portraits. And let me just tell you, I don’t really want this blog to be known as “that style blog where that girl takes awkward pictures of herself in the mirror”.

2. I’m nervous! I know that’s silly… but hey, it’s slightly intimidating.

But that will all change very soon people! Get pumped because this weekend is going to be jam packed with fun activities.

Speaking of this weekend, I’m back in Arkansas 😦 sad. No worries, I didn’t get fired or anything. I am just here to meet up with my parents and trade cars back, tie up some loose ends with my old apartment and bank, and have a photo shoot. Let’s all have a moment of silence for Fred (that’s what I named my dad’s F150 I have had the pleasure of driving for the past month). Fred was useful… but that’s where that ends. Don’t get me wrong, I am very thankful for him and I will not lie I enjoyed driving a massive truck that made me look so tiny. But I cannot handle the cost of gas that sucker guzzles or the parking. It was seriously an issue. For those of you who don’t know me… I am not the best parker. You know that one car in the lot that is always diagonal in the spot and slightly over one line… yep that’s me. Now imagine that, only the car is a HUGE F150. It took me at least four times to park Fred almost every time. So, I’m ready to have Gertrude back (that’s my car).

Did anyone catch that not only do I name things but I always choose old names. I don’t know why that is, but I do.

Well folks, that’s all for now. I will be back soon, I PROMISE!

O by the way… as soon as I get a little better at this whole blogging thing I will add a list of my favorite blogs. These ladies are inspirational… well I think so at least.

glass half full

That’s right people… I am officially a Positive Polly.

For those of you who know me, you may be slightly shocked. With my sarcasm/sense of humor you might think of me as a Negative Nancy. Well no more my friends! With this move I am turning over all kinds of new leaves! It’s fantastic! I have even had people come to me and tell me that my attitude is encouraging to them and I’m a great person to be around (it’s really nice hearing that again). All of this is not to say that I was a total butt or anything… But I’m better now and I love that!

I don’t know if this change in attitude is from all of the wonderful things that have been happening or if it’s because I’m in a new place and I just want to enjoy it or even if it’s just because I have learned to appreciate all of the blessings I have been given (because trust me people… this girl is truly blessed). Whatever the reason, I’m glad it has changed! Don’t get me wrong… I still have the same sarcasm.

So let’s recap the things I am thankful for… my family, my friends, my new wonderful job, my apartment and finding a great roommate, new opportunities, all of the material things that i “need”, the fantastic way that everything just fell into place these past few weeks, the people who have been in my life in good or in not so great ways, God and all that He is, my new attitude… and so many more things.

Ok, so it is finally time for me to tell you all about my new job… drum roll please………

I work for Fossil! And in case you were wondering it is absolutely fantastic. I am working at the corporate offices here in Dallas and it is nothing like a typical corporate environment. I mean we get to wear denim to work! I could not have asked for anything better. My job is super entry level but there is plenty of room for growth and well heck, this is definitely where I need to be right now. I am learning so much about the company and our products as well as the customers and our target market. It’s so much fun to go into work everyday and I can’t say thank you enough for that. I’ve been there for almost two weeks now, the first week was training and classroom stuff and the second has been me on my own. And again I’m going to say, I love it. So I will leave you with that… not a lot of information but just a little so you can kind of see why I love my job so much!

O… there’s another reason why I love my job…

Trust me, that really makes you feel legit.

welcome to the big city

Ok, so that picture is a little difficult to really see but for some reason I love it. It’s a picture of downtown Dallas from the top of a ferris wheel.

I’ve lived here for a week now and this weekend consisted of exploring the city, but not my big city. I was welcomed to Texas with a weekend full of small town happenings. It was pretty legit.

Started off on Friday by heading out to a tiny town football game, and let me just tell you… it’s true what they say, driving to different towns in Texas is almost like crossing state lines. It took us two and a half hours to get to this game. Despite the trip we didn’t miss the whole game, only the first half, but the characters that were in the stands were definitely one of a kind. Let’s put it this way… the large men with potbellies standing behind us screaming through huge home made megaphones were members of the school board and in front of us we had the joy of seeing a lady change her baby’s diaper, right there on the bleachers. All in all it was fantastic.

The next day we took another two hour trip to my roommates home town and when we got there I met the most wonderful dog in the world… She’s a huskey and so beautiful.

Cute, right?

Anyways, Saturday afternoon we made another two hour trip to a small town in Arkansas (so we actually crossed state lines for that one). This town was precious, built in 1886 there was so much history and character there it was incredible. We even got to go on a ghost walk that evening… It was like ghost hunters only not as cool. Yep, that’s right people… I love ghost hunters on scifi, I think it’s one of the best shows. No judgments please.

Ok, now to Sunday. It’s back to Dallas now but the fun isn’t over, welcome to the State Fair. It was a first for me but quite the experience. People watching was hilarious but we won’t go into that. Anywho… at the fair we saw a dog show, went to the petting zoo, saw Boris the 1,100 lb hog, got a picture with Big Tex, road the ferris wheel, and ate some fried food. Yea, it was a good time. So here are a few pictures for you… this post is just full of pictures!

For your benefit I will not at pictures of the animals… the pig was slightly disgusting. So for now I will leave you with Big Tex.

I promise to update more frequently, I’m just so busy… It’s fantastic! By the way, my new job is great!! I love it and I’m so blessed to have this opportunity!!
